  Spider Vein Removal

Spider veins are small red, blue and purple blood vessels that appear most frequently on the face and legs. Today’s new lasers provide safe and effective non-surgical treatment options for the removal of spider veins. During the treatment, light energy is delivered in a series of brief pulses. The blood vessels, but not the surrounding tissue, absorb the light energy. This causes a selective damage to the vein, which is subsequently absorbed by the body.
  Commonly Asked Questions:

Will the laser treatment work on my veins?
Prior to treatment we will review your medical history to determine how long you have had a problem with your veins and the severity of the problem. We will need to determine your skin type and whether there has been any prior treatment on your veins. Unfortunately, laser is unable to treat large varicose veins.

What is recovery like?
Following your treatment, you may be asked to wear support hose or special stockings to help keep pressure on the veins. This will help keep the treated veins closed. Bruises around the treated area usually disappear within the first week. A tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks when larger veins are involved. While each vein may require several impulses from the laser, most will disappear in 2-6 weeks. Keys to success with laser vein treatment include the avoidance of hot baths, strenuous exercise and may include the short-term use of compression stockings.

What causes spider veins?
Spider veins result when a capillary becomes damaged or weakened. Blood becomes pooled in the capillary causing thread-like streaks to appear on the surface of the skin. No one knows what causes spider veins or varicose veins, but a combination of factors increase the likelihood of leg vein problems, such as heredity, obesity, pregnancy, hormonal changes, oral contraceptives or standing for long periods of time.

How many treatments will I need?

The number will vary with each individual depending on the extent of visible varicosities and spider veins. A range of 1-4 treatments with a 6-8 week interval can be expected.
